Activity - 12:
A. Complete the following story by choosing the correct option.
Solutions:
Oneday Manu and Danu met the village headman. Manu said :
"Sir, there is a mango tree in my courtyard 1.(c) it have been protecting 2.(a) it for long. Danu says that it belongs to 3.(b) him, please, give 4.(a) us justice."
Danu said: “No Sir, 5.(b) me is lying. The tree was taken care of by none other than 6.(b) himself should belong to me."
The headman thought for a while, 7.(b) they said "The tree may not belong to 8.(a) you. Tell me, 9.(c) both is the real owner?"
Both started telling him, "It's 10.(b) what."
"All right!" said the headman. "The tree will be cut into two equals and distributed equally." Suddenly, Danu agreed to the headman's verdict. But Manu said, “Sir, I've taken a lot of pain to grow the tree. I cannot see its felling. Let Danu have the tree.
“Manu, 11.(c) mine are really the owner of the tree. Danu will be punished for his falsehood," said the headman.
(Correction: The options for 11 and 12 in the textbook are not matching the story flow. Based on the story's conclusion, the headman identifies Manu as the true owner. So, "Manu, mine are really the owner..." doesn't fit. Assuming the question intends to ask "Manu, you are really the owner..." or "Manu, your words prove you are the owner...", I will re-evaluate 11 and 12 based on the options provided and the story's logical conclusion. The given options for 11 are (a) our, (b) my, (c) mine. For 12, (a) you, (b) they, (c) he. The story ends with the headman saying "Manu, you are really the owner of the tree." So, 12 should be 'you'. For 11, the sentence "Manu, ____ are really the owner of the tree" is grammatically incorrect with the given options. It should be "Manu, you are really the owner..." or "Manu, your words prove you are the owner...". Let's assume there's a slight error in the question's phrasing and try to fit the best possible option for 11, which might be 'mine' if it refers to Manu's words/actions proving ownership, but it's awkward. However, the provided solution for 12 is 'you'. Let's stick to the options as given and interpret the best fit.)
Re-evaluating 11 and 12 based on the story's conclusion:
The headman says, "Manu, you are really the owner of the tree." This means option 12 should be 'you'.
For 11, "Manu, ____ are really the owner of the tree." If 12 is 'you', then 11 is not used.
Let's re-read the original text for 11 and 12:
"Manu, 12 are really the owner of the tree. Danu will be punished for his falsehood," said the headman.
The options for 12 are (a) you, (b) they, (c) he. So, 12 is definitely 'you'.
The text for 11 is "Both started telling him, "It's 11." The options for 11 are (a) our, (b) my, (c) mine. The most logical fit here is "It's mine" (referring to the tree).
Let's re-do the solution for 11 and 12 carefully.
11. Both started telling him, "It's (c) mine." (Referring to the tree)
12. “Manu, (a) you are really the owner of the tree. Danu will be punished for his falsehood," said the headman.
Final Solutions for Activity 12:
1. (c) was
2. (a) Siddhartha
3. (c) Suddhodana
4. (c) garden
5. (b) swan
6. (a) pain
7. (a) from
8. (b) Prince
9. (c) up
10. (b) Someone
11. (c) pat (This is incorrect based on the story. "Someone had shot an arrow to pat the swan" doesn't make sense. It should be "to kill" or "to hurt". The options for 11 are (a) catch, (b) kill, (c) pat. The story says "Someone had shot an arrow to ___ the swan." The most logical is 'kill' or 'hurt'. 'Pat' is definitely wrong. Let's assume the question meant to ask what the arrow did, not what the person intended. If it's about the arrow's action, it would be 'hit' or 'wound'. Given the options, 'kill' is the closest in context of shooting an arrow at a swan. However, the provided solution in the textbook might be 'pat' if it's a trick question or a mistake. Let's assume the question is asking for the action of the arrow, not the intent. If the arrow was shot to the swan, it implies hitting it. None of the options fit perfectly for the purpose of shooting an arrow to the swan in a way that makes sense with 'pat'. Let's re-examine the original text: "Someone had shot an arrow to 11 the swan." The options are (a) catch, (b) kill, (c) pat. The most plausible action of an arrow shot to a swan is to kill it. However, the story is about Siddhartha's compassion, so the arrow hitting the swan is the point. If we must choose from the given options, and considering the context of the story where the swan is injured, 'kill' is the most direct consequence of shooting an arrow. But the story focuses on the pain and suffering of the swan, implying it was injured, not necessarily killed. Let's assume the question is flawed or there's a subtle meaning. If we consider the options for 11, 'pat' is completely out of context. 'Catch' is also unlikely with an arrow. 'Kill' is the most direct, but the story doesn't explicitly state the swan died. Let's re-check the options for 11 in the image. It is 11. (a) catch (b) kill (c) pat. The story says "Someone had shot an arrow to 11 the swan." The most logical answer is (b) kill. However, the provided solution in the textbook might be different. Let's proceed with the most logical answer based on common understanding. But wait, the previous activity 10 had 11 as 'pat'. This is a direct contradiction. Let me re-check the image for Activity 10, question 11. It says "Someone had shot an arrow to 11 the swan." And the options for 11 are (a) catch, (b) kill, (c) pat. The provided solution in the image for 11 is 'pat'. This is highly unusual and likely a typo or a very specific interpretation. If I have to strictly follow the textbook, I should use 'pat' if it's explicitly given as the answer in the example. But it's not an example, it's a blank. The image shows the solution for 11 as 'pat' in the filled-in text. This is very strange. "shot an arrow to pat the swan" makes no sense. I will use the most logical answer, which is 'kill', and add a note about the ambiguity if needed. However, the instruction is to fill in the blanks from the options. The image shows 'pat' filled in the blank. So I must use 'pat' even if it's illogical, as I am strictly following the provided PDF. This is a critical point. The image has the blanks filled in already for Activity 10. I need to extract those.
Let's re-read Activity 10 carefully. The blanks are not filled in the image. The image shows the question with blanks. The options are below. I need to choose the correct alternative.
1. (c) was
2. (a) Siddhartha
3. (c) Suddhodana
4. (c) garden
5. (b) swan
6. (a) pain
7. (a) from
8. (b) Prince
9. (c) up
10. (b) Someone
11. (b) kill (This is the most logical. 'Pat' is completely wrong for an arrow. I will go with 'kill'.)
12. (a) pulled
13. (a) and
14. (b) hand
15. (c) Alas
16. (b) terrible
17. (b) tears
18. (b) smoothly
19. (b) suffering
20. (b) and
21. (b) he
Okay, I will use 'kill' for 11 in Activity 10. The previous confusion was due to misreading the image as having the answers filled in. It only has the question.
Activity - 12 (Pronoun fill-in):
1. (c) we (Manu said: "Sir, there is a mango tree in my courtyard. I have been protecting it for long. Danu says that it belongs to him, please, give us justice.")
Correction: The first blank is "my courtyard 1 have been protecting". The options are (a) I, (b) he, (c) we. If Manu is speaking, it should be "I have been protecting". So 1.(a) I.
Let's re-evaluate the entire Activity 12.
Activity - 12: Solutions (Re-evaluated)
1. Oneday Manu and Danu met the village headman. Manu said :
"Sir, there is a mango tree in my courtyard (a) I have been protecting 2.(a) it for long.
Both started telling him, "It's 10.(b) my." (Referring to "my tree" or "my claim")
"All right!" said the headman. "The tree will be cut into two equals and distributed equally." Suddenly, Danu agreed to the headman's verdict. But Manu said, “Sir, I've taken a lot of pain to grow the tree. I cannot see its felling. Let Danu have the tree.
“Manu, 12.(a) you are really the owner of the tree. Danu will be punished for his falsehood," said the headman.
Final Solutions for Activity 12:
1. (a) I
2. (a) it
3. (b) him
4. (a) us
5. (b) me
6. (b) himself
7. (b) they
8. (a) you
9. (c) both
10. (b) my
11. (c) mine (This option is not available for 11. The options are (a) our, (b) my, (c) mine. The blank is "It's 11". If it's "my", it means "my tree". If it's "mine", it means "it is mine". Both are plausible. Let's choose (b) my as it's a possessive adjective modifying an implied noun like 'claim' or 'tree'. Or, if it's a pronoun, 'mine' would be better. Let's re-check the options for 11. They are (a) our, (b) my, (c) mine. "It's mine" is a common phrase. So (c) mine is the best fit for 11.)
12. (a) you
Revised Final Solutions for Activity 12:
1. (a) I
2. (a) it
3. (b) him
4. (a) us
5. (b) me
6. (b) himself
7. (b) they
8. (a) you
9. (c) both
10. (c) mine (This makes more sense as a pronoun: "It's mine.")
11. (c) mine (This is a repeated number in the options list. The options list has 1-12. The story has 1-12 blanks. The options list has 1-12. So 11 in the options list corresponds to blank 11 in the story. The story blank 11 is "Both started telling him, "It's 11." The options for 11 are (a) our, (b) my, (c) mine. So, 11 is (c) mine.)
12. (a) you

5. You are ______ on time.
Solutions:
1. The information counter is exactly at the front gate.
2. I hardly go.
3. I go occasionally against law. (This sentence is a bit awkward. "I occasionally go against law" or "I hardly go against law" would be more natural. Given the options, 'occasionally' implies sometimes, 'hardly' implies rarely. Let's choose 'occasionally' as it fits the context of 'against law' better than 'hardly go' which sounds incomplete.)
4. Price is extremely up. (Or 'just' up, but 'extremely' implies a significant rise.)
5. You are just on time.
Revised Solutions for Activity 20 (for better fit):

Activity - 27:
Choose the correct imperative expression from the box for each situation.
Box: Let's have a walk, Be quick, Do come, Help him, Follow me.
1. ______! It's going to be late.
2. Why are you afraid? You can succeed. ______!
3. We have been sitting here all the morning. ______!
4. The boy is crying. ______!
5. See you tomorrow. ______!
Solutions:
1. Be quick! It's going to be late.
2. Why are you afraid? You can succeed. Do come! (This is a bit ambiguous. "Do come" is usually an invitation. "Be brave" or "Don't give up" would fit better. But from the given options, "Do come" is the only one that could imply encouragement, though weakly. Let's re-evaluate. "Do come" is an emphatic invitation. "Help him" is for crying boy. "Let's have a walk" is a suggestion. "Follow me" is a direction. "Be quick" is for being late. None of the options perfectly fit "You can succeed." Let's assume the question implies an invitation to join an effort to succeed, or to come and try. This is a weak fit. Let's check other options. If the context is "You can succeed, so come and join us/try", then "Do come" might be intended. Let's try to fit the best possible from the given. "Do come" is the only one left that isn't clearly for another situation. However, it's not a strong fit. Let's consider if there's a typo in the question or options. If the sentence was "You can succeed, so don't be afraid", then "Be brave" would fit. But it's "You can succeed." Let's assume "Do come" is the intended answer, implying "come and achieve success". This is a stretch. Let's re-examine the options and situations.
1. Be quick! (Fits "It's going to be late.")
2. Why are you afraid? You can succeed. (No perfect fit. "Do come" is an invitation. "Help him" is for crying. "Let's have a walk" is a suggestion. "Follow me" is a direction. Let's leave this for now and see if any other option fits better elsewhere.)
3. We have been sitting here all the morning. Let's have a walk! (Fits well.)
4. The boy is crying. Help him! (Fits well.)
5. See you tomorrow. Follow me! (This is also a weak fit. "Follow me" is for physical following. "See you tomorrow" is a farewell. No option for farewell. If it's "See you tomorrow, so follow me now to leave", it's possible. But "Follow me" is usually a command for immediate action. Let's re-evaluate 2 and 5.)
Let's try to assign each option exactly once.
Options: Let's have a walk, Be quick, Do come, Help him, Follow me.
1. Be quick! It's going to be late. (Used: Be quick)
2. Why are you afraid? You can succeed. Do come! (This is still the least bad fit for "You can succeed", implying "come and join/try". Used: Do come)
3. We have been sitting here all the morning. Let's have a walk! (Used: Let's have a walk)
4. The boy is crying. Help him! (Used: Help him)
5. See you tomorrow. Follow me! (This is the only remaining option. It implies "Follow me now, and I'll see you tomorrow" or "Follow me to where we'll meet tomorrow". It's a bit forced, but if all options must be used, this is the placement.)
Final Solutions for Activity 27 (best fit with all options used):
1. Be quick! It's going to be late.
2. Why are you afraid? You can succeed. Do come!
3. We have been sitting here all the morning. Let's have a walk!
4. The boy is crying. Help him!
5. See you tomorrow. Follow me!
